New power station planned for Llanberis quarries

Recently submitted plans for a new pumped-storage power station at the Glynrhonwy slate quarries above Llanberis would create new reservoirs, a major pipeline, a possible upgrade to overhead power cables - and the permanent flooding of disused quarry sites that contain climbing routes. The BMC has announced its backing for the Mountaineering Council of Scotland’s (MCofS) wind farm manifesto which calls for a moratorium on further developments in key upland areas, especially round the Munros and Corbetts which are Scotland’s highest peaks.
