2nd Hoghton clean-up - postponed

A sweet little bouldering area

The hoghton clean-up day planned for 17th July has been postponed because of the bad weather until a future date. Please watch this space for updates.

However, there are now a number of great routes in a  climbable condition and even cleaning equipment at the quarry if you want to help out anytime.

The following routes are now good to climb:

  • Wasp HVS**
  • Boadecia E2*** (top very clean, a little more work needed on start but very climbable)
  • Golden Delicious E3*** ( 2nd pitch only so far, accessible from Mandarin)
  • Mandarin E2*** (last 15' would still benefit from a brush)
  • Rhododendron Buttress E2***
  • Creme de Menthe VS**
  • In the Pink E1*

In addition the following routes are partially cleaned  and can probably be climbed with a bit of effort

  • Every Face Tells a Story HVS**
  • Demdike HVS**

Finally, John Stringfellow has been busy excavating a very accessible bouldering area that has good landings and a range of problems.

Unfortunately, however, our first clean-up day, on Sunday 10th July, was a very showery day which hindered the work and discouraged some people from turning up (shame on you!)

Hoghton is the highest grit crag in Britain and has many outstanding routes, but because its soooo... big it is going to take a lot of effort to get it properly into shape. For this reason we have set another clean up session for Sunday 17th July from 10am. More details here.

We really need as many people as possible to be there - it simply won't happen if we all leave it for someone else to do.

Everyone welcome and free cakes and brews as usual.

You can of course go to the crag and climb the routes at any time, but why not take your cleaning kit and do your share when you are there.

Please remember that access is still sensitive at Hoghton - follow the approach and parking advice on RAD.
