Anima from Adventures with Amina and Beck from Beck Goes Solo joined 13 other volunteers to build and maintain 600m of footpath south of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) this June.

The BMC were delighted to have two young instagrammers joining our team of volunteers for a very successful Get Stuck In event in Eryri (Snowdonia) this June.

Amina, from Adventures with Amina and 'Narrowboat Beck' from Beck Goes Solo both put in some hard work in heatwave conditions, alongside 13 other fantastic BMC volunteers and the National Trust rangers.

Get Stuck In founder and BMC Access & Conservation Trust trustee, Steve Charles, reports, "It's great to see that Get Stuck In events are attracting younger people who care about the outdoors like Amina and Beck. They were both immense fun and definitely got stuck in! Beck's excellent reel about the event is here and we look forward to seeing what Amina posts on her very popular Instagram account.

Beck said, "I had a brilliant couple of days, learning new things, meeting some amazing people, and feeling like I’d done something worthwhile."

Beck and Amina (left and right of the banner respectively) joined 13 BMC volunteers to fix the footpaths on Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) this June.

Steve says, "Amina wants to give back and is absolutely on message about overuse of paths, littering, etc. She is keen to come back with some other friends too so it would be fantastic to see her again.

"We stayed at the National Trust bunkhouse at Bwlch Mwlchan, Nant Gwynant during the recent heatwave. Although temperatures were high (25 deg C even high up) on the first day volunteers climbed over 800m to the upper parts of the south ridge of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon), clearing scree off a previously built path and reinforcing retaining walls over a 200m section.

"In the evening we had a communal meal followed by great talk by Owain Tomos, BMC North Wales Hill Walking Rep, on the role of Eryri National Park Volunteer Rangers.

"On day two we cleared cross drains and put in new steps over a 400m section of the Watkin path, just above Gladstone Rock.

"Day three was a social hike. With the hot weather it was a relaxed walk from Betws-y-Coed through forest to wild swim in Llyn Elsi. It was a really productive event and a great group of volunteers!"

This was the second Get Stuck In event for new apprentice ranger Arwyn Parry whose two-year post started in January and is funded by the BMC Access & Conservation Trust.

Our 15 volunteers improved the slippery, scree-ridden footpath up Yr Wyddfa's Watkin Path to create a safer, more durable surface.
Volunteers work in small teams to carry heavy rocks across steep ground to create safe, new, sustainable paths.
Despite the heatwave, volunteers cracked on with the footpath repair, led by apprentice ranger Awryn (right), whose 2-year post is funded by the BMC Access & Conservation Trust.

Protect the Sheffield Moors from Wildfire

Help us raise £50,000 this year to protect the Sheffield Moors from Wildfire - 81.2 hectares (114 football pitches!) of this beautiful moorland, including the popular walking and climbing areas of Stanage, Burbage, Froggatt and Curbar Edges, has been lost to wildfire since 2018.

Did you know that you can donate to the BMC Access & Conservation Trust entirely FREE simply by shopping online as you usually would, at any time of the year with Easyfundraising? It only takes two minutes to set up, here's how.

If you want to contribute to upland and mountain access and conservation causes like the above, then simply click here to donate to The BMC Access & Conservation Trust via The Climate Project or Mend Our Mountains campaigns at any time. One-off or regular donations of any amount are always most welcome.

Volunteer

Fancy fixing footpaths in the Lake District, placing stepping stones in Eryri or planting sphagnum in the Peak District? Sign up to one of our Get Stuck In events here. And if you can't volunteer, why not gift us the amount you would have spent in fuel or on a train fare getting to a volunteer event?

Leave a legacy

A wise person once said, the most noble thing you can do is to "plant trees under whose shade you will never sit" and, likewise, fund path repair projects on which you will never walk and moorland restoration projects which you will never see. If you'd like to make a lasting impact on the landscape long after you've left this world, please consider leaving us a legacy.
