This is a one day outdoor sport climbing course for 11-17 year olds who are confidently leading on indoor climbing walls. As well as being a fun day out climbing the course will cover key safety skills for both the participant and the parent. We are constantly monitoring the government Covid-19 guidelines and will inform you if there are any changes needed to be made to the course to remain Covid-19 compliant. If we have to cancel the course due to Covid, we will issue a full refund.
KEY INFORMATION
What do the courses cover?
The courses are designed to teach you everything that you need to know to safely climb bolted routes outside, including:

Lowering off different sport routes

Re-threading belays
-
Retreating from routes
-
Pre-clipping to safeguard starting moves
-
Differences between the wall and the crag
Please note that the course content will be adapted to match the ability of the paticipants on each course, with instructors teaching techniques appropriate to the age and experience of attending young people.
Who will be instructing?
The instructors for these courses will hold an MIA or MIC, be AMI members and have climbed at least French 7a. The name of the instructor is given next to the venue they will be delivering the course.
Cost
A place on one of these courses costs £80 which includes parental guidance should parents wish to be involved. We normally have a maximum of 4 places on these days but due to CV-19 the numbers will likely be reduced and will depend on government guidance at the time. It is also possible to have the instructor to yourself for the day, you can contact the instructor via the email links below to discuss this option.There are a small number of free places available for families who are in rented accomodation and are recieving income support. These can be applied for by emailing James McHaffie at the BMC: james@thebmc.co.uk.
Duration
Courses will start at 10:00-16:30.
Parental Supervision
Participants are required to remain under the supervision of a parent or guardian over the age of 18. The supervisor must be willing and able to approach the crag with the group which may involve uneven and steep ground.
