On 1st August 2006 the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) launched a consultation on the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations intended to apply to those paid to lead or train others in climbing or caving activities.
John Cousins, who, as the Chair of the Work at Height Working Group, has been responsible for coordinating the response of the climbing, hill walking and mountaineering community with the support of the BMC, has said
“the working party members and senior HSE (Health and Safety Executive) staff are to be congratulated on all their work in resolving this issue. It is our view that HSE have a much clearer view of adventure activities than when the original consultation was launched and we hope that this will lead to a positive outcome for everyone involved”.
The Adventure Activity Industries Advisory Committee (AAIAC), which includes John Cousins as a member, has produced a draft response to the consultation.
