Women's Winter Week 2017

Posted by Joanna Rowbottom on 24/11/2016

Calling all adventurous women. Get out and about with a likeminded, supportive group by joining The Women's Winter Week on 5-12 March 2017.

With all the current positive initiatives regarding women in sport, we're excited to present this collaboration between Plas y Brenin and Glenmore Lodge, with support from the BMC, MCofS, MTA and AMI.

The Women's Winter Week is a fantastic opportunity to get out with a supportive group of likeminded women, sharing the same interests and enthusiasm for the mountains.

There is a choice of programs, venues and dates. Five day courses in the stunning west highlands with Plas y Brenin based at Ballachulish near Glen Coe or a weekend in the spectacular scenery of the Cairngorms at Glenmore Lodge near Aviemore. Each centre is offering three levels of course.

Winter Hill Walking – An opportunity to explore the hills and learn the specific skill set you need to feel confident and stay safe above the snowline.

Winter Mountaineering – If you have already had crampons on and would like to confirm what you are doing is right and has the opportunity to tackle some more challenging terrain.

Winter Climbing – If you are happy on steeper ground and have done some winter mountaineering or rock climbing then this is the next exciting step.

The aim is to get out and enjoy the mountains at their most spectacular. We will be striving to create a positive, open, honest and friendly environment; an opportunity to ask all the questions you have never been able to.

These courses will be led by a very experienced all female instructional team from each of the national centres. All of them have been working and having adventures in the winter mountains for many years. They are passionate about the mountains and want to show you how accessible and rewarding this sometimes intimating environment is. So come and join in, let them show you that with planning, sound decision making and the right skill set you can be out enjoying this spectacular time of year.
