The Welsh Climbing Championships 2018 took place on Saturday 9 June at Rock UK Summit Centre. An awesome day was had with epic battles throughout from around 160 young climbers in six different age categories all competing to be crowned the champion!

The day started early with registration taking place at 8:30am. Luckily, Rock UK Summit Centre had provided an early morning breakfast menu of delicious bacon butties!

A strong Youth E and Youth D field of female competitors ensured the route setting team were kept on their toes with numerous tops of the first and second qualifying routes. Meanwhile, the largest fields in Youth C and Youth B females gave a spectacular battle on the tricky qualifiers to the delight of the crowds of spectators.

Not to be outdone by the girls, athletes in the Youth B Male category also showed their eagerness to win one of the few places available in the final. Huge performances and high energy levels saw the first qualifying route being topped 11 times in total.

The sun was gleaming as the qualifiers came to an end, with many competitors enjoying an ice cream in the afternoon sun. Soon it was time for isolation to be opened, and the battle to be crowned champion commenced. Congratulations to all that took part, and especially to the winners below.
