Tell us about your volunteer experience

Posted by Suzanne Jones on 17/01/2022

Volunteers are crucial to the BMC, we couldn't survive without volunteers giving their expertise, time and support. To ensure we're doing our best and meeting the needs of BMC volunteers we have put together a volunteer survey.

There are over 500 BMC volunteers: at least 200 volunteers are involved in climbing competitions, at least 50 in hill-walking, and around 60-70 work on our access and conservation. Plus if you add up all those involved with our ten regional groups across England and Wales and ten or so specialist committees that's another 200. There are also hundreds of volunteers supporting the club and hut networks.

Lynn Robinson, former BMC President and volunteer-champion, said: “One of the greatest strengths of the BMC is the partnership between staff, volunteers and our partners. Ensuring our volunteer force is supported and recognised is one of our core priorities. Please do complete the survey as your views are really important to us."

What is a volunteer?

When we talk about volunteers we're referring to anyone who gives up their time to do something for the BMC, and it's activities, for free. Some volunteers may do this every week, or even every day, others may do this once or twice a year by helping out at a competition or a one-off event such as a crag clean up.

FIND OUT: More about volunteering for the BMC.

We're keen to understand more about BMC volunteers and have put together a survey for all current volunteers, previous volunteers and those who might want to volunteer in future.

COMPLETE: The online survey here

Current volunteers

We'd like to know what motivates you to give your time, what you enjoy most about volunteering, how satisfied you are with your volunteer experience and whether there is anything else we can do to better support you.

Past volunteers

We'd like to know what motivated you to start volunteering, and why you stopped volunteering. Was there anything we could have done to improve your experience?

Potential volunteers

We want to find out if you might be interested in volunteering with us. Is there anything that stops you from volunteering, do we communicate the volunteer opportunities well enough and are they appealing to you?

Please spare a few minutes to complete the survey to assist us in monitoring trends and informing future strategies and projects.
