Trail magazine have been big supporters of Mend Our Mountains from the start. Now they've stepped up to the plate with a huge £9,000 donation, courtesy of their famous gear sale at Keswick Mountain Festival
This year's Keswick Mountain Festival saw the now famous gear sale organised by Trail magazine, with hundreds of people queueing across the festival site. They were there to get their hands on the enormous quantity of gear that Trail had received from partners and brands to test and review. Every year, they give the proceeds of this enormous sale to charity, and this year it went to Mend Our Mountains.
The money will stay in the area, with the £9,000 Trail have raised being put towards the Scafell Pike project in Mend Our Mountains: Make One Million. The campaign is helping our partners Fix the Fells (a collaboration between the National Trust, Lake District National Park Authority and others) to repair pathways up to the summit of England's highest mountain.

Talking about the decision to support Mend Our Mountains, Trail Editor Simon Ingram said: “The idea of mountains being vulnerable sort of eludes most people. Yet the evidence is there in every widening path and scrappy desire line – which is why this campaign is so important. If everyone who used the hills contributed just a pound a year to the critical work Mend Our Mountains is hoping to carry out on the paths and infrastructure around our busiest peaks the future would look a lot less eroded.
Maybe one day that might happen. But for now, with the help of our lovely readers and the many manufacturers who donated kit for our sale, Trail is lending its support to this wonderful campaign. Let’s put our hills into recovery and spread the word as widely as we can.”
Mend Our Mountains: Make One Million project lead and BMC Hill-Walking Officer Carey Davies said: "Trail have supported the Mend Our Mountains campaign from its inception, so it's fantastic that they have chosen to contribute this enormous sum. The campaign has been moving through the gears for several months now, and we're starting to see the totals mount up. In the case of the Lake District, it's especially exciting as we have had some really significant sums of money come in, including this donation from Trail."
The campaign now moves on to two exciting opportunities for the public to get involved. We'll be offering a series of amazing bundles of outdoor gear - all you have to do is buy a raffle ticket. Then we'll be crowdfunding - get yourself some outstanding rewards for your donation.
