Paraclimbing is getting a makeover: we're pleased to announce changes to the paraclimbing national competitions for 2019. Find out what's going to happen and how to get involved.
For 2019, the Paraclimbing Series will undergo some changes in format and will consist of two competitions: the Paraclimbing Championships and the Parabouldering Championships.
These two competitions will form the pathway for climbers to join the GB Paraclimbing Team in 2020. The selection policy will be released in September.
The paraclimbing championships will take place on Saturday 26 October at Awesome Walls in Sheffield. The competitions will consist of two qualifying routes and the top climbers from each category will go through to a final route. For the final, competitors will remain in isolation, there will be a six minute observation period and the route will be climbed onsight.
The parabouldering championships will take place on Saturday 9 November at Harrowall in London. This will be an eight bloc scramble format. Competitors will have a maximum of five attempts on each bloc and a three hour window in which to complete the blocs. The top climbers will go through to the final, which will be a four bloc final with four minutes to attempt each bloc.
For the paraclimbing championships, all competitors will be on a top rope. For the parabouldering championships, there will be no top ropes in place and therefore competitors must assess the risk for themselves and decide if they wish to enter this competition.
All competitors must be members of the BMC, Mountaineering Scotland or Mountaineering Ireland in order to enter these competitions.
Categories will be the same as the International Federation paraclimbing classification system:
B1, B2, B3
AL1, AL2, AU1, AU2
RP1, RP2, RP3
For those competitors outside of these categories, there will be an open category.
Registration will open in September.
If you cancel with less than five business days of the competition - you will not be entitled to a refund.
If you cancel with more than five business days of the competition - you will receive a 100% refund.
