Group Advice

There have been a number of rockfalls at Hodge Close and Parrock Quarry in recent years. In 1996 the Health & Safety Executive wrote to local centres advising about the rockfall and stating 'it is not advisable to use the quarry for any outdoor activities at present'. Group users should take note of this danger and exercise their own judgement about the use of the crag for group activities.

Area information

Many Lake District fells and crags now have an Open Access designation following the CRoW Act. They also have many nationally important bird and plant species dependant on inaccessible crags/ledges and heather/mixed heath environments for survival. During the bird nesting period, a number of species can be vulnerable to disturbance. The Lake District restrictions are monitored, variable and reviewed each year through the season. If the birds do not nest, restrictions are lifted early - any updates to climbing restrictions will be updated on the crag page on RAD as soon as any changes are known about.
