Whirl Pool Buttress

Cornwall

The buttress rises from tidal sand: not trivial for access. Single- and multi-pitch routes up to 200ft, including the fine Light In August (HVS 5a), the very fine Earthly Powers (E2 5c) and The Evil Empire (E3 6a).

Tidal - some routes require low spring tides to start from the sandy base of the zawn. However, Light in August and Earthly Powers are not as severely restricted.Approach from the small car park with square toilet block on the coast rd between Count House (Bosigran) and Morvah. Head diagonally L across the road to a NT plaque, then take the seaward path. Go L over the coast path to a fishermans path steeply down to the sea. On the R (facing out) is Whirl Pool Buttress.
