Tunhill Rocks

Dartmoor

Tunhill Rocks requires a walk in (20m) and is not as good quality or providing as much climbs as nearby Bonehill, Hound Tor and Saddle Tor. As a result you could spend a few hours here on your own enjoying the views down the Widecombe Valley and cracking a few nice little problems. The Rocks would benefit from a little more traffic and are rough even for Dartmoor. Tunhill does have a great little slab and a steep overhanging face with quite a few powerfull problems. For more detail see Javu.co.uk (http://javu.co.uk/Climbing/Guides/DartmoorBouldering/TopTorArea/index.shtml). Area information

Part of the Dartmoor National Park is used by the MoD for training and live-firing exercises. It also offers a wealth of excellent hillwalking and numerous Tors, some of which still have the potential for new climbing development – especially wild bouldering. The Defence Estates endeavour to support public access (without compromising public safety and military training) and have produced a website with the important safety info and firing times. Follow this link http://www.dartmoor-ranges.co.uk/ for the Dartmoor training area homepage and links to detailed info.
