*** BOULDERING CIRCUIT TOPO NOW ONLINE - SEE BELOW ***Apparently unrecorded and previously unclimbed 7m sandstone tower alongside the Frome Valley Walkway footpath 100m upstream from the A4174 Avon Ring Road - I'm calling the crag "Ring Road Tower" for now. There are a number of sandstone buttresses in the immediate vicinity, all in woodland and not overlooked with no apparent access issues, could be good for bouldering with some modest ivy removal.UPDATE - Raphael has developed the "Ring Road Boulder" above the Walkway 75m upstream of the Tower. See database for list of problems.FURTHER UPDATE - There is now a bouldering circuit established here with problems up to V7.Many thanks to Raphael Bath, Tom Dixon and Dan Savory for their work on the routes, and Dan for the Topo available here: http://esotericbouldering.com/bristol/ringroad.html (the website is being rebuilt and will hopefully be available early in 2015)

Parking and Approach
There are several approaches. The easiest and quickest for Ring Road Tower and Boulder is as follows:>From the M32 jct 1 take the A4174 Ring Road East towards Kingswood, keeping in the right hand lane and turning right at the lights towards Frenchay. Almost immediately turn left into Beckspool Road. After about 200 metres turn left into Penn drive, and bear right, parking (considerately of course) just around the corner opposite some apartments. Cross the road and walk across the residents car park and through a stone keyhole style, turning right onto the cycle path. After about 200 metres, at the start of the big road bridge, a little path goes rightwards and down some concrete steps alongside the bridge to the river. Turn left at the bottom and follow the river 50 metres upstream to Ring Road Tower, and a further 50 metres to the Boulder (up the slope to the left). 5 minutes from the car.Alternatively:>From the M32 jct 1 take the A4174 Ring Road East towards Kingswood but keep in the left hand lane, turning left at the traffic lights towards Hambrook. After 1/4 mile park underneath the M4 motorway bridge and, crossing the road, take the footpath across a small field. As you pass under another motorway bridge scramble down the slope to the riverside footpath (Frome Valley Walkway). Follow the path along the river downstream past several vegetated crags, keeping left over a tiny bridge at a fork (the right hand fork leads after 50 metres to some scruffy overhanging buttresses which might yield some good bouldering with a little cleaning). The Ring Road tower is on the right about 100m before you reach the Ring Road Bridge. About 8 minutes from the parking.
