A trad climbing venue, above Coed Mawr farm reached from Blaenau Dolwyddelan.

May 2023 update- Ravens still nesting between Gringo and Bloodbank Buttress we ask that climbers avoid this area until the ravens have left. Also possibly Kestrels nesting above Ravens. Likely that restrictions will be extended to July 31st.

While located on private land, the landowner is welcoming to climbers as long as its small numbers using the venue, dogs strictly under control and on a leash at all times and no litter or damage caused to boundaries.  Please ask permission from the farmer at Coed Mawr Farm especially during lambing season. 

Restrictions apply from 1 February - 31 July.

Reason: Nesting Birds

Restriction for nesting Ravens and Kestrels apply to the whole of the left hand (Cheshire Cat) buttress only. 

Parking and Approach

Park carefully at the pull in on the public road. Do not drive up the lane to the farm or block any field gates, entrances and be aware that large farm machinery needs to pass.

Not suitable and groups not allowed. 
Area information

A wide range of cliffs - mainly traditional and multi pitch inc. the popular Llanberis Pass, Idwal Slabs, Clogwyn du'r Arddu and Cwm Silyn cliffs, but also outlying outcrops such as Carreg Alltrem. Many crags are on CROW access land - but not all especially some of the outcrops which lie on private enclosed land. Most of central Snowdonia is both designated an SSSI and also is an European Special Area of Conservation on account of the upland habitat and associated geology and plants found here.

There is an occasional bird ban on the Cheshire Cat area of the crag. Currently there are ravens nesting there.

Crag is on private land. Farmer is willing to allow climbing so long as only small numbers and his property is respected (eg no damage to fences and walls). Do not drive up to the farm. Park at lay-by just before Afon Lledr.
