Rockfall is a semi-regular occurance in the New Quarry due to the shattered and hollow nature of some parts of the face. It is still a very popular venue hosting a good concentration of the sport routes and bouldering problems available in the Avon Gorge, but climbers need to be aware of the objective risks involved with climbing here and be able to manage them. Wearing a helmet is a good idea, as well as standing out of the fall line whilst belaying/hanging out at the bottom and climbing cautiously in case of snappy holds/loose rock. Of course rockfall can happen anytime, but be particularly cautious during the spring when the colder temperatures from the winter months and reduced climbing acvtivity may result in more potential for loose rock.
