What to do at Kendal: the best BMC goodies

Posted by Peter Burnside on 07/11/2017

Kendal Mountain Festival is nearly here. And this year, we’re going big: so here's what to do. Come over to the BMC stand in the Kendal Basecamp to discover our awesome schedule of films and talks, get the lowdown on our free gear giveaways, find out more about our latest work and see the range of flashy new BMC Shop kit.

This year, we're going big at Kendal Mountain Festival. We've got three BMC TV films in the festival film programme, a new 100% upcycled stand and we've moved Breakfast Club to a new 200-seat venue. Here's your guide to BMC goodness.

Come and say hello at our new stand

The BMC stand in the Basecamp is our hub for the weekend. Come along, say hello and catch one of our drop-in film and QnA sessions. We’ll be running sessions on the stand where you can chat with Steve McClure and Mary-Ann Ochota and watch their latest short films over a beer. Want to know about BMC crags? Find out about our latest endeavours, including the recent Horseshoe Heroes project and how we bought Crookrise to protect access. Or check out Niall Grimes chatting about the latest BMC guidebook: Peak Limestone South.

The BMC Shop will be there, with stylish clothes, great guidebooks, and mega maps and mugs. Show your love for the BMC and sloths with the new Sloth men’s t-shirt. Grab a Respect the Rock boot towel and a Call of the Grit t-shirt ready for the winter bouldering season. Or pick-up a cool mug for when you’re warming up back at home.

Join the BMC at the BMC stand all weekend and get a free limited-edition mug

Watch our films in the Festival sessions

There are three BMC TV films showing as part of the Kendal Festival film sessions: Rainman, Beyond the Wall and Without a Partner. Check out the main Kendal programme for showing times.

Help shape the future of the BMC

As well as films, we'll be launching the new independent review report on the future of the BMC at 2:45 on Saturday 18 November in Kendal Town Hall.

Join in the Basecamp sessions

Don't miss our three sessions with Liam Lonsdale on the Basecamp stage. Mary-Ann Ochota will be tackling the Inaccessible Pinnacle at 11:15 on Friday morning, followed by Steve McClure talking 9b at 9:15 on Saturday. And, in what is sure to be a classic, Liam will be talking to Niall Grimes at 6pm on Saturday.

The big one: BMC TV Breakfast Club

With loads of great films, including two very exclusive films that won't be shown anywhere else, BMC TV Breakfast Club is one of the unmissable events at Kendal. Join us at 11 on Sunday morning when Niall Grimes – climber, storyteller and mischiefmaker – will host this unique event for BMC TV. Revive yourself with coffee and pastries – or a cheeky Bloody Mary if that’s your bag – then sit back for a voyage of discovery into limits and the people that push them.

Features exclusive films, behind-the-scenes footage and plenty of dark humour. Stars BMC ambassadors Steve McClure and Mary-Ann Ochota, plus Pete Whittaker and special guests.

Thanks to our amazing supporters for Breakfast Club prizes. We've got four Ascent Packs, 10 Spark Packs, and loads of other goodies from the awesome Lowe Alpine. Techno bits for your phone, like a dual USB power bank charger, cases from Hydroseal, and more, all provided by the BMC’s recommended retailers Cotswold Outdoor and Snow+Rock. A set of small friends from Wild Country and loads of 5.10 Climbing freebies to be given away during the showing of Pete Whittaker’s film Without a Partner. T-shirts, hoodies, stickers, pitcher bags and goody bags from DMM, and a load of stuff from the BMC Shop.

WIN: A Garmin Fenix 5x Watch and 2 Breakfast Club tickets

Our Breakfast Club event sold out in days. But we've got a very special prize: two tickets plus a Garmin Fenix 5X Watch courtesy of Cotswold Outdoor and Snow+Rock. This GPS watch features built in activity profiles, an Elevate wrist-based heart rate monitor, and advanced performance metrics you can train more efficiently than ever before. The high-resolution Chroma full-colour display stands out even in bright sunlight, while pre-loaded TOPO European maps keep you on the right track.
