Ninety Six climbers turned out on Saturday 6th June for the second round of the Junior Boulder Cup 2015.
With 8 problems to complete in 3 attempts within two hours the wall was soon buzzing, our volunteer judges carefully scrutinizing the four point starts and ensuring bonus and top holds were securely held before marking down the all-important scores. The setters had done a fine job populating the walls with volumes and barely-there holds for problems that looked inspired by recent European and World Cup rounds. The mix of shouldery and balancy problems did the trick with only Youth C Boys seeing 7 into the finals round.
In the final with 8 climbers out for each of the three problems the crowd was treated to some inspiring climbing with only William Bosi (Youth A Boys) once again confounding the setters and surprising himself on the slab to take 3 tops. Jo Neame (Youth A Girls) also impressed being the only climber from 3 categories to top a difficult black problem.
With some local climbers getting into the mix and taking ranking points this weekend, final championship positions are far from certain and results from the final round in Bristol at the end of the month could have a crucial effect. See you there - enter online here.
