IFSC World Cup back in the UK - EICA, Ratho - 23-24 September

Posted by Rob Adie on 25/05/2017

International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup Lead, Speed & Paraclimbing Cup will be held at Edinburgh’s International Climbing Arena:Ratho from 23 – 24 September 2017. This is the first time the World Cup in Lead & Speed has been held on British soil since 2003 and the first time the Paraclimbing Cup has been held in Scotland.

World Cup - Lead & Speed

Up to 200 of the world’s top climbers will compete in two disciplines – Lead and Speed climbing – in the World Cup. GB Climbing hopes to field a strong team and this event will give the team a great opportunity to compete in two disciplines on home soil. Up to 1,200 spectators are expected to attend over the two days of competition so it should be a great atmosphere.

Paraclimbing Cup

Up to 50 climbers will take part in up to 10 categories in lead climbing – men’s and women’s AU-1 (arm amputee); men’s and women’s AU-2 (forearm amputee); men’s and women’s visually impaired B1, B2 and B3; men’s and women’s AL-1 (seated) and AL-2; men’s and women’s RP1, RP2 and RP3.

Tickets

IFSC World Cup and Paraclimbing Cup is strictly a ticketed event. We advise booking tickets early to avoid disappointment. Tickets will be in an e-ticket form, which can also be printed. Please remember to bring your ticket with you on the day. Click here to book tickets.

The full event will be webcast on the IFSC Youtube channel - further details to follow.

EICA

EICA:Ratho, run by Edinburgh Leisure, is the largest climbing centre in Europe and is the only climbing centre in the UK that has walls suitable for an IFSC World Cup Lead and Speed climbing competition.

Sport climbing will make its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games after being approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as part of a package five sports, all selected for their key focus on youth, which is at the heart of the Games vision for Tokyo 2020.

The IFSC World Cup and Paraclimbing Cup are being organised by the British Mountaineering Council and the EICA:Ratho and is being funded by Edinburgh Leisure, City of Edinburgh Council and is being supported by EventScotland.
