Get into hill walking at a bargain price with the BMC and National Trust

Posted by Carey Davies on 04/03/2014

Good grub, fascinating history and, above all, beautiful countryside. Make the first step into hill walking with this new BMC / National Trust course in the rolling hills of Shropshire.

The BMC has teamed up with the National Trust to deliver a pilot course on Saturday March 15 aimed at giving first-time hill walkers essential skills and know-how.

Based in National Trust land at the Carding Mill Valley, this pilot course aims to cover essential hill walking skills like route-planning, map-reading and navigation with the added bonus of the National Trust's knowledge and facilities.

For a bargain £10 you get lunch, tea and coffee, a wealth of fun facts from National Trust rangers and, of course, a walk in the hills under the expert guidance of Mountain Training-qualified instructors.

You will also gain an insight into the area’s fascinating history. One of the oldest and most important geological sites in Britain, the Shropshire Hills are a wildlife-rich Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty home to rolling, whale-backed hills perfect for beginners.

Warm, waterproof clothing and appropriate footwear are essential.

The minimum age for this course is 16 years old.

To book please contact Lucy at the National Trust or ring 01743708148.
