Emily Phillips came third in the latest IFSC European Youth Cup for bouldering in Soure, Portugal, and Hannah Slaney came fourth in her category, narrowly missing out on a podium place last weekend.

Competing in the Youth B category (the age group for 14 to 15-year-olds), Emily Phillips from Cardiff completed three of the four finals blocs to win the bronze medal at the IFSC European Youth Cup for bouldering. Emily also came agonisingly close to topping all of the problems, which would have put her in the running for the gold medal.

Emily says: “Despite the initial disappointment of being so close to winning, I am so so excited to have made my first ever international podium!”

So psyched to get 3rd place in the Portugal bouldering EYC today! Amazing support from team GB!🇬🇧

A strong competitor in her field, and one of GB Climbing’s rising stars, Emily is exceptionally motivated at the moment to be the best all-round climber possible, with regular appearances on podiums in national lead and bouldering competitions.

Talking about her performance and future competitions, Emily says: “It's such a great feeling to know that everything you have worked for has paid off and it's given me more motivation to train harder and get the top spot at the next EYC in France.”
