We’re planning a celebration of the amazing climbing on offer at Crookrise: the BMC’s newest crag acquisition on Saturday 2nd June. This moorland gritstone gem, nestled high above Embsay packs in serious quality both in terms of routes and boulders – some of the most perfect weathered features and impeccable lines anywhere.
In fact it’s so good, it’s worth showing off, so on the 2nd June we’ll be at the crag for Crookrise Calling.
Locals are well versed in the quality of the routes and problems available on this exceptional gritstone crag and if you’ve never been before, this event is the perfect excuse to sample its delights.
Join Steve McClure on a bouldering circuit
Big Steve McClure will be there working his way through the crag’s classic blocs on a bouldering circuit that anyone can join him on to get a few tips and tricks to improve their climbing. This will be very informal and you can drop in and out as you like.
Crag treasure hunt...
On top of this, we’re running a treasure hunt across the crag and boulders with tokens hidden on routes and problems for climbers and boulderers to find.
...with prizes in the pub
At the end of the day, once tips are worn down and the grit rash gets a bit much, we’ll be retiring to the Elm Tree Pub in Embsay where you can exchange your tokens for prizes. Then we’ll be entertained with a slideshow whilst we tuck into a free buffet and while away the evening over a few beers and tall stories.
How to join
The event is free. We’ll be setting off up the hill at 10am from Embsay Reservoir car park and heading to the pub at 7pm, but feel free to join in at any time – the more the merrier!
