Climbing Wall Award

Find out about the Climbing Wall Award

The Climbing Wall Award (CWA) is for people who want to supervise groups on indoor and outdoor climbing walls and towers.

It covers the supervision and management of activities such as bouldering, the teaching of basic movement skills, injury avoidance, group management skills and roped climbing, excluding the teaching of leading.

Mountain Leader Training has produced a DVD showcasing the eight leadership and instructional awards available in the UK.

The film gives a great insight into the CWA.  It follows a group with an instructor climbing indoors for the day, plus an interview with the instructor.

The Climbing Wall Award handbook lays out the award in more detail.

If planning on undertaking the Climbing Wall Award, first register for the scheme with a home nation training board. You can view forthcoming courses in England and Wales. Alternatively contact English and Welsh providers direct, to see when they are delivering courses.
