BMC/McofS Paraclimbing Series - Round 2 Results

Hari Budhar Magar on route 1 at the Castle Climbing Centre

The Paraclimbing series rolled into London this week and a fantastic round was hosted at the Castle Climbing Centre.

24 competitors entered and there were some amazing displays of courageous climbing with some creative route setting everyone was challenged on the day.

There were some usual faces, but some fantastic new talent as well. All the way from Romania - visually impaired climbers Alin and Zidaru were visiting to get some competition experience as part of a Romanian paraclimbing project that has over 70 climbers - they both put in some impressive performances especially on the final boulder problem which either involved an all out dyno or some very technical bridging.

Also impressive was double leg amputee Hari Budhar Magar who gave maximum effort on all the routes he tried, and did amazingly well considering the rubber pads kept falling off his prosthetics.

The next round of the series is in Newcastle on 7 November and full details can be found here.

Full results from the round and overall results for the series after 2 rounds can be seen below.

The GB Paraclimbing Team is supported by the Route Setting Association and Wild Country.

Multi-award winning Climbing Blind on BBC4 this Wednesday

Last year, blind climber Jesse Dufton led every pitch of the classic East Face Route (E1 5b) on the Old Man of Hoy, placing all his own gear. Renowned adventure filmmaker Alastair Lee made a cracking film, supported by Montane and BMC TV, based around the ascent, which has been scooping up awards and is, amazingly for a climbing film, going to be shown on British telly. To top off the good news story, Jesse has just won a BMC Volunteer Award.
