Report: The BMC Youth Open Bouldering Competition 2019

Posted by Peter Burnside on 21/02/2019

Keep them coming! The BMC Youth Open Bouldering competition last weekend was absolutely buzzing. Loads of psyche from all our young guns and loads of laughs. Here's what went down and the full results.

Yet another awesome competition is over! This year's BMC Youth Open Bouldering competition took place on 16 February 2019. A fantastic day was hyad with over 160 competitors turning up.

The day started with eight blocs for each category. Each bloc was carefully crafted, using holds supplied by our Official Holds Sponsor: Beta Outdoor Sports, by this competition's route-setting team: Chief Alex Fry, Max Ayrton, and Ben Norman.

There were several strong performances across all categories, with the blocs seeing many epic tops, but only the top six per category made it through to the finals.

The final blocs included the flexibility slab for Youth B and C and the crafty hand switch for Youth A and Junior!

All in all, another smashing competition, with the next one fast approaching: Youth Open Lead at Big Leeds Depot!

See you all there!

Big thanks

As always, we couldn't do it without our awesome route-setting team and Beta Outdoor Sports for providing the holds. Thanks to La Sportiva for sponsoring the competition and providing prizes! Much love to BMC president Lynn and all the other valued volunteer judges! Not to forget Magic Mark for his technological wizardry with everything scoring related.
