Youth Climbing Series Grand Final 2020

In light of the fast-moving situation regarding the coronavirus, the BMC, Mountaineering Scotland and Mountaineering Ireland have taken the decision to postpone the Youth Climbing Series Grand Final. 

The provisional rescheduled dates are 26 & 27 September. The BMC are continuing to montior the COVID-19 situation carefully and any further updates regarding the Grand Final will be communicated as and when required.  Please be mindful of the possibility that the Grand Final may not be able to run this year depending on how the COVID-19 situation develops.

Eligibility

An amendment to the rules is required in order to ensure the Grand Final can continue.

This amendment only applies to English and Welsh Competitors. For competitors in Scotland and Ireland, please contact your respective councils.

The top three (3) competitors in each category at the end of the regional Series who have competed in at least two (2) rounds will qualify to enter the Grand Final.

The top thirty climbers from each region across the UK and Ireland will compete to be crowned champion.
 
The top three competitors from each category, in each region, will be eligible to compete at the Grand Final and will be contacted via email by no later than the end of April 2020.

Format

For 2020, and based on feedback received after the 2019 final, the Grand Final will follow the regional round formats.

The Grand Final will take place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September 2020 at The Depot Climbing Centre Sheffield and Awesome Walls Sheffield respectively.

Saturday 26 September -The Depot, Sheffield

  • 10 boulder problems per category 
  • 2.5 hour time limit
  • 5 attempts per problem

Sunday 27 September - Awesome Walls Sheffield

  • 4 routes per category
  • 6 minute time limit per route

Combined podiums will take place on Sunday 27 September at Awesome Walls Sheffield.

Full results will be published by the Wednesday after the Grand Final.

Cost

£30 per competitor and includes a competition souvenir t-shirt for English and Welsh Competitors. Climb Scotland and Mountaineering Ireland will be providing T-Shirts for their competitors.
