BMC Youth Climbing Series: Dates and changes for 2018

Posted by Rob Adie on 24/07/2017

The Youth Climbing Series (YCS) for 2017 finished at the end of April in an exciting national final. After the event the area youth co-ordinators from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland, gathered to discuss the series and plan the 2018 YCS.

Dates for the 2018 YCS series will be as follows, taking into account the dates of the February half term and Easter next year:

Round 1 -  Saturday 27 January
Round 2 – Saturday 3 March
Round 3 – Saturday 24 March
Grand Final - Saturday 28 April - TBC

Rule Changes for 2018

All podium positions at all rounds of the competition will be split on the day using superfinals. These superfinals will be timed and time used if there is still a tie present after the superfinal.

I hope you all enjoyed the YCS this year and I look forward to seeing some more fantastic performances at the national final again next year.

The colour coding on the map is crazy. All the Scottish islands are coloured like they were in Northern Ireland.

How peculiar - the Scottish Islands appear to be part of Ireland these days...

Hi Guys,

Please ignore the colour coding of the map, this was just representative image I used from the internet. The most important bit is the red lines marking the new boundaries of the regions. Walls in each region will be appointed in the near future, and venues will be published on the BMC website in the Autumn.

Cheers

Is there any further information regarding the speed climbing element and what format it will take, presumably it will be included only in the final

What happens when awful route setting prevents a small person from reaching the start holds? Will they be disqualified like last year? And will there be any more coaching from judges?

Dear Sirs,

With regards to the new regional areas, talking with various parents I am somewhat confused as to which area to enter my child, should I wish to do so this year.
Do you have to enter the region for which

a) You live in.
b) The Climbing centre in which you climb.
c) Region which you have previously competed in.
d) Or do you have a choice?
Many Thanks

In answer to questions 13.

You must enter the region you live in, although if your climber climbs with a squad or team at a wall in another region we are happy to make the exception for the them to compete with their fellow squad members and friends.

Cheers

Will the speed climbing element be compulsory, as in will i need to be good at speed climbing to qualify. Or will it not be an element of the competition, and just be a bit of fun?

Answer to question 16.

No the speed element is not compulsory at all for 2017.

Good show at Exeter today apart from overly zealous parents fighting and some oversights from judges which resulted in some competitors being allowed to cheat whilst others were disqualified - most unfair!

Could someone clarify the new 2018 rule for the YCS in relation to the super final at each round. Does this rule apply only when there is a tie?
