The last youth competitions of the season are almost here and with some changes to the 2016 calendar, there will be some slight changes to these last two competitions of the season as well.

The BMC competitions committee have discussed the issue of young competitors doing too many competitions - both national and regional events and trying to peak too many times in one season. It was thought that rather than competing almost every weekend (which you could do if you wanted to) – we should be encouraging you to spend more time training for a few specific events per year and having more contact time with your coaches/squads etc. rather than pushing yourselves to rush round the country trying to attend as many events as possible.

So we have decided to drop the three round cup series that we piloted this year and change to a two event system. So this will include the National Championships in each discipline and another Open Youth/team selection event in 2016.

This now has the knock on effect of the lead and boulder competition scheduled for November will now just be an Open Youth competition and NOT be the first round of the 2016 cup series. The results from the lead event will however still be used as part of the selection process for the GB Climbing Team for 2016.

Full dates, venues and rounds of the these events for 2016 will be announced soon.

These competitions are designed to be a fun but competitive event. The results from these events will be used as part of the selection criteria for the GB Junior Bouldering and Lead Teams - for more information click here.

Full selection criteria for the GB Junior Lead Team can be found here.

Lead competition - Saturday 21 November - Leeds Wall

Bouldering competition - Sunday 22 November - The Climbing Works, Sheffield

ENTRY FOR THIS EVENT HAS NOW CLOSED

The BMC Open Youth competitions are open to young climbers born between 1 January 1997 and 31 December 2004 and who are eligible to compete for Great Britain (ie hold a GB passport). Others may be invited at the discretion of the BMC.

Team managers from both the lead and bouldering teams will be looking at performances in these events as it will be used as part of the continuing monitoring process for the Great Britain Climbing Team. Consequently, these results will be considered - and will count - when selection for next year's GB team is is made.
