Avalanche Safety Card

The MCofS in conjunction with Avalex have produced a small laminated card giving basic avalanche information as a safety aide for mountaineers and ski tourers

The avalanche card which can easily be slipped in the pocket of a jacket or rucsac gives broad avalanche advice on areas such as: planning considerations, snowpack warning signs and route choice. It also describes how to carry out a walking Rutschblock Test and gives web details for the Scottish Avalanche Information Service. It is however only a general aide and does not replace gaining further detailed knowledge through training courses or more detailed books such as 'Chance in a Milllion' by Bob Barton and Blyth Wright which is available from the BMC.
