Andy Parkin's studio destroyed by fire

The studio of British mountaineer and artist Andy Parkin, who crafts the Piolet d’Or and Kendal Film Festival trophies, was destroyed by a fire on Friday night. The 16th Century former saw and grain mill just outside Chamonix was also the workshop of Rabbit on the Roof skis, and painter Anati Graetz. Sarah Stirling speaks to Andy to find out what happened.

With a wet start to the summer and many Peak sport climbing crags suffering from seepage, Yorkshire has been popular lately for climbers based in the north looking for dry bolt clipping. Kilnsey, in particular, has seen increased numbers which is starting to lead to some issues that urgently need addressing before they threaten future access.

First ascent of Indian 7,000er; Andy Parkin evacuated by Air Force

An Indian expedition from the Kolkata section of the Himalayan Club has made the long awaited first ascent of Plateau Peak (7,287m) in the East Karakoram. Later, a second team, which originally had the same peak as its goal, was involved in an avalanche incident, resulting in air evacuation for Andy Parkin.

Climbers heading off to enjoy some of the very best Welsh winter climbing on the Black Ladders are strongly reminded that parking at Gerlan is severely limited, and they must look at alternative parking to prevent further problems.
