Vindolanda Quarry

Northumberland

Crag information
Climbing Area: North East Rock Type: Sandstone
Importance: Local CRoW Land: Yes
Ownership: Private No. of Routes: 26
Within National Park: No Year Developed:
Grid Reference: NY775662

The quarry is on Open Access land and you have a right of access and are allowed to climb there. The landowner however, doesn't want the quarry used for climbing and may approach you. Please be polite in any subsequent discussion.

Do not use the short approach from the lane above the houses at Birkshaw. This approach crosses private land. Please use the described approach.

The landowner routinely exercises their right to 'close' the access on certain days, this would deny access to the quarry on those days. Please check the Natural England Access Maps before visiting.

Parking and Approach

Park at the Lime Kilns GR NY7806 6700 and walk to the public footpath and gate near the junction, 100m up the lane. Follow the footpath uphill to the ridge and the Longstone. Continue past this along the crest of the ridge to drop down to the quarry. (1km from the gate)
