The national climbing championships take place this month; bouldering at the Cliffhanger Festival in Sheffield; lead climbing at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena. The IFSC, competition climbing’s world governing body, is seeking Olympic status for the sport, and the BMC must decide whether to support its campaign. A Mountain Guide is the highest mountaineering qualification. British Mountain Guides are trained and assessed in the skills and techniques of teaching and guiding all aspects of rock climbing and mountaineering, summer or winter, in both glaciated and non-glaciated terrain.
