Last weekend saw the 2019 BMC AGM take place in Buxton. Thank you to everyone that got involved, from submitting your online vote to taking part in some of the volunteer organised actvities over the weekend, you can read the full report below.

Positivity and change: the BMC AGM and annual awards 2019
It was time for the BMC AGM 2019 at the dazzling Devonshire Dome in Buxton. A number of changes were up for vote and attending members got to find out the results first-hand. From the Volunteer Awards ceremony to the Members' open discussion, there was a lot of positivity and optimism about the future of the BMC. And when the results came through, it got even better.
BMC seeks dedicated volunteer to head review of specialist areas
Help us build a better BMC. We are currently recruiting for a key role to lead a small group of volunteers to conduct a review of the BMC's specialist areas. The ideal candidate will have chairing and organisational skills, be a high-level communicator, be great at working with others, and have experience of at least one of the BMC's specialist areas.

IFSC announce Paraclimbing World Championships 2019 will take place in Briançon, France
Plans to move the Paraclimbing World Championships 2019 from Tokyo have just been confirmed by the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) after it was notified that the arena holding the event is available for one day less than originally planned. However, before the official response was released the news broke on Facebook and a petition to keep the event in Tokyo began to gain momentum on the internet.

Chapel Head: Peregrines and Passions…
Chapel Head Scar is an imposing limestone crag above the Witherslack valley in South Cumbria. It’s loved by many outdoor enthusiasts. Whitbarrow Scar above provides great walking when the higher fells are clagged in. The cliff is undoubtedly Cumbria’s premiere hard sport climbing crag. It is unique and many of its routes are of good quality, hence it’s enduring popularity but it also provides an important refuge for peregrine falcons which nest on the crag during the spring. James Bumby, BMC Volunteer Access Co-ordinator for the Lakes gives some background to why restrictions are needed to protect cliff nesting birds in the Lakes and for this crag in particular...
Youth Strikes 4 Climate
On Friday 15th march 2019 over 1.4 million school children and students in cities across the world ditched school and classes to protest against the immoral inaction, apathy and lack of leadership at tackling climate change. Originally inspired by Greta Thunberg protesting on her own outside the Swedish parliament her initiative has grown to become the largest climate change movement in history and last week she got nominated for the Nobel Peace prize.
Mountain tiger: a tribute to Tom Ballard
Tom Ballard, a prolific and talented British climber, died on Nanga Parbat with his Italian climbing partner Daniele Nardi. We pay tribute to Tom, the son of another very talented climber who also died in the mountains: Alison Hargreaves.
BMC Student Safety Seminar 2020
