BMC support for expeditions
There was a time when the BMC received money from UKSport to help support mountaineering expeditions. However, in recent years all this money has been cut so that UKSport can concentrate their funding on the 2012 Olympics.
Disability Awareness Climbing workshop report
Bendrigg Trust near Kendal, MLTE and BMC provided a Disability Awareness Climbing workshop in October. The event was very well attended by over 60 people travelling from all parts of the country and beyond, with Luis from Portugal taking the furthest travelled crown.

BMC welcomes Queen’s Speech
The BMC is pleased that the long awaited Marine Bill has been included in this years Queen’s Speech. This new piece of legislation outlines changes for managing and conserving the marine environment and importantly outlines a new right of access to our coast.
Henry Folkard earns sport volunteer honour
Congratulations to BMC Peak Area volunteer Henry Folkard who has received a prestigious national award for his exceptional contribution to volunteering in sport.

Apparently the sales of ropes have dropped off significantly from Peak District climbing shops, while at the same time, sales staff note that more and more bigger bouldering mats are being sold, and Sheffield Accident and Emergency wards have never had it so good in terms of knackered ankles.
BMC office - Christmas closure
The BMC office will be closed for Christmas and New Year from midday on Friday 23 December and will reopen for business as usual on Tuesday 3 January.
BMC Better Bolts Campaign
The condition of fixed equipment on many of our classic routes has reached a terrible state. On some routes the corroded or damaged bolts are over 20 years old. Some climbs are now unclimbable in the manner that the first ascentionist intended. So what are we doing about it?
