Don’t miss the north west’s premier climbing get-together of the year! The third annual BMC WiltonFest is on Saturday 5 September, and stars Steve McClure and a bed sheet, supported by beers, black puddings and a barbecue.

WiltonFest is a celebration of the fantastic climbing that the four Wilton quarries, including the BMC-owned Wilton 1, have to offer. It's organised by volunteers from the BMC North West Area.

What’s the plan?

This year we’ll be setting up base camp in Wilton 2, to enable us to utilise the gun club’s hut, with free brews throughout the day and knowledgeable locals to point any Wilton newcomers at the best lines. Then later on it’s time to fire up the BBQ, crack open the beers, rack some brains with a fiendish quiz, dish out the raffle prizes and, as the blazing sun sets, sit down to a Steve McClure slideshow screened on a king-sized bed sheet 'bolted' to the quarry face.

Activities start from 10am and include:

Online booking for instructor-led sessions and masterclasses can be booked here.

Bring your own mug for brews / glass for beers, unless you’re happy drinking from a plastic cup, and a chair for the slideshow.

Festival-goers are free to camp in the quarry on Saturday night.

Where is Wilton?

The Wilton quarries lie four miles north of Bolton, just off the A675 Bolton - Preston road.

Wilton 2 (grid reference SD696134) is the middle of the three quarries situated above Scout Road.

Parking is available at a variety of locations nearby on the day, including Wilton 4 which will kindly be opened by Bolton Rifle & Pistol Club as an additional parking area. Please make sure you park considerately, not blocking the road, gates or driveways.

What are the instructed sessions and masterclasses?

Experienced climbers - Steve McClure will be delivering two movement skills masterclasses in the afternoon running 1pm - 2.30pm [FULL] and 3pm - 4.30pm [FULL] to help you improve your climbing.  At the bargain price of only £10 you'd be mad not to book on!  Book your place here
