£60,000 of super grants announced to help far-flung expeditions

The Mount Everest Foundation has set £60,000 aside in 2014 to support British expeditions to remote, unexplored and expensive mountainous areas, such as Antarctica and Sikkim.

In its 60th anniversary year, and through the generosity of recent donors, including those who have supported the 60th anniversary celebrations, the Mount Everest Foundation (MEF) has the potential to offer some major additional grants up to a total of £60 000.

A small number of exceptional expeditions in 2014 will be considered for these special awards.   They are particularly intended for expeditions to remote and unexplored objectives, where the costs are high, and where the extra money would be instrumental in making the trip happen.

Successful applications may come from expeditions planning to visit particularly expensive destinations, such as Antarctica, China, Far West Nepal or Sikkim, Indian Karakoram.  But they are not limited to any particular countries.

All applicants for grants in 2014 will be eligible for these awards, without the need for specific application.  Those seeking a special award should take particular care to ensure that their financial case is clearly explained.
