BMC North Wales/Cymru Outdoor Youth Meet 2009 report

Climbing on Holyhead Mountain

The BMC North Wales/Cymru outdoor meet for parents and children took place on Saturday 30 May.

The sun was shining. The turn out was great. As ever, the volunteers were fantastic and put together an excellent event. The tone of the day was empowerment - to allow families to meet other people, gain the confidence to climb together and enjoy the experience in a place they may not have been to before.

After meeting initially near Llanberis everyone drove to South Stack and walked over to Holyhead Mountain to enjoy a cooling sea breeze on the hottest day of the year so far.

A whole range of rock routes and scrambles were climbed by both children and parents until the sun and general fatigue got the better of everyone.

At the end of the meet there was an outdoor BBQ at Y Fricsan The Snowdon Inn. A big thanks to Ted Sylvester and his staff for putting on a great spread. Here's to the next time!

The meet was led by volunteer Mark Dicken who is the BMC North Wales/Cymru Area Youth Coordinator (AYC).

The BMC, and all who took part, would like to say a great big thank you to Mark, partner Sam, and all who helped out on the day, for organising such a great event.
