The BMC Open Youth Competition was held at EICA Ratho on Saturday 28 July 2012.

The event was a lead climbing competition that involved two qualifying rounds and then a final.

It was open to young climbers born between 1 January 1993 and 31 December 2000.

Additionally, GB Team managers were looking at perfomances in the event as it is used as part of the continuing monitoring process for the GB Climbing Team.

The competition was a great success with 78 competitors taking part. Rivalry was high in all the categories with some competition first timers putting in some excellent performances.

BMC thanks supporters
The BMC would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of the event. This includes the large number of enthusiatic volunteers who do such a fantastic job. They judge, belay, score the event, register competitors, make drinks, run errands, and so on; the list is virtually endless. Such events really couldn't take place without their outstanding and unstinting support. And, also, let's not forget the young people themselves and all their numerous supporters!

Thanks also go to all the professionals who work at the event. This includes the owners and staff of EICA Ratho for making us feel so welcome and putting in a huge effort to make the event a success, the route-setters for great routes, BMC staff both present at the event and those in the office who work behind the scenes.

And finally, thanks to all the sponsors who supported the event and the BMC. These include DMM, Mammut.

The British Junior Climbing Team is supported by the BMC, Epicentre, Sherpa Adventure and Timbuk2. Many UK walls also support the British Climbing Team through free or subsidised entry.

Brilliant competition.
Naomi Tilley's debut as a commentator was a huge success.
