This article outlines what Child Safeguarding training the BMC provides.
Child Safeguarding is about two things.
Firstly it's about keeping children safe from those who might seek to harm them.
Secondly, it's about adults working according to good practice so that they don't do things, or put themselves in situations, that might lead to an allegation being made against them.
The BMC Child Safeguarding policy is a key document in this.
The BMC offers two levels of Child Safeguarding training:
1. Safeguarding and Child Protection Awareness
This is an introductory workshop that makes people aware of the issues and how to work within good practice guidelines.
All those who work, paid or unpaid, with children and young people, and those with designated roles in relation to children such as Club Welfare Officers, Area Youth Coordinator, junior team volunteers, should attend a recognised Safeguarding workshop or course.
The course itself has been designed by UK Coaching. BMC safeguarding staff have been trained to deliver UK Coaching safeguarding workshops. All who attend such a workshop receive a UK Coaching certificate of attendance.

If there isn't a BMC event available then there may be an event in your area run by UK Coaching. It is perfectly acceptable to attend one of their courses. Check out courses available through UK Coaching here
2. Time to Listen
This course is specifically for people who have a designated person role, youth officer role within a club, or an Area Youth Coordinator role within the BMC.
It is more advanced training and attendees must already have attended a basic Safeguarding and Child Protection Awareness training course mentioned above.
The Time to Listen course was originally developed by the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) of the NSPCC and it is now administered by UK Coaching. BMC safeguarding staff have been trained to deliver UK Coaching administered safeguarding workshops.
