The BMC supports opportunities for competition climbing events at all standards, ranging from regional bouldering leagues to international world cups.

Drew Haigh (30) is from Pickering, North Yorkshire. After eight years of non-stop travelling and climbing he discovered the delights of competition climbing when he entered – and comprehensively won – the British Team Trials last December.

Event: BMC British Bouldering Championships 2008

Britain's premier bouldering competition will take place over the weekend of 12-13 July, and once again the British Bouldering Championships will be held as part of the Cliffhanger outdoor festival in Sheffield.

Event: British Lead Climbing Championships

Britain's premier lead climbing competition will take place over the weekend of 24-25 May, and once again the British Lead Climbing Championships will be held at the Blackpool Towers, one of the nation's best climbing walls.

A cliffhanger of a bouldering contest

The BMC (British Mountaineering Council) is the representative body that exists to protect the freedoms and promote the interests of climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers, including ski-mountaineers. The BMC recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death.
