Welcome

The BMC exists to promote the interests of climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers; so, many thanks to all who completed the member survey earlier this year. Your responses will enable us to inform work areas and improve services.

We have also started to use our Facebook page to host discussions on topical issues, such as whether we should lobby for British Summer Time to be used all year round. Take a look at the discussions and let us know what you think.

Defra Minister listens to BMC concerns
On Monday 13th September, the BMC met with officials from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), to discuss a number of issues including coastal access, CRoW Act mapping, National Park asset management, and quarry restoration.
BMC member survey 2010: results
The latest BMC member survey 2010 was distributed with Summit 57 and as many as 6500 members returned their completed responses to the BMC.
Wild camping worries
Camping ‘wild’ is a different way of spending the night outdoors but it isn't allowed everywhere - with a responsible approach however, there are many remote areas where you can still rest your weary head under a star filled sky.
Kitty Wallace (GB Team) wins Bulgaria EYS
GB climbing team member Kitty Wallace has won the Female Youth A category in the EYS (European Youth Series) held at Veliko Tarnovo in Bulgaria on 2nd October.

Step this way! Keep that summer festival feeling alive by donning your walking boots at one of the many walking festivals taking place this autumn.
International Trad meet Orco Italy 2010 report
Italy's first International Trad climbing meet was organised by Mauro Penasa. It was held in the Orco valley Torino from the 19th to the 25th of September 2010. The BMC was represented by Lucy Creamer and Tom Randall.
British first ascents in Torugart-too
John Proctor, Adam Russell and Robert Taylor from Edinburgh University have returned from a successful expedition to Kyrghyzstan, picking up three first ascents in the little known mountains of the Torugart-too.
