As the general election campaign enters its final days, we take a look at the main parties’ pledges on sport and the enviromnent. We also report on our own election, which was held last month on the sun-drenched Gower Peninsula.

The BMC's membership is made up of approximately 75,000 climbers, hill walkers and mountaineers. The majority of our membership participate in hill walking and about 20% of members are purely hill walkers who don't go climbing.
The first ever BMC National Disability Climbing Competition was held on Sunday 25 April at Climb UK in Rochdale.
The week of the 13 April saw the launch of the party political manifestos and the general election is now set for 6 May. The BMC has pulled together the key points of interest to our members from the manifestos of the main parties.
Rhossili on the Gower Peninsula provided an absolutely stunning location for the BMC’s AGM and festival weekend. Over 70 BMC members and officials enjoyed a sunny weekend of climbing and walking activities around Worm’s Head, and attended the AGM.
The BMC is looking for people who love their coastline to volunteer to represent local climbers and walkers, whilst the Marine and Coastal Access Act is implemented around England.
Saturday 24 April saw 70 climbers invade the Leeds Wall to fight it out in the three categories of the BMC Leading Ladder Final 2010.

Record Breakers presenter Roy Castle was right when he said dedication is what you need. The BMC is calling for more landowners to follow in the footsteps of Sheffield City Council, who as of 16 May, will "dedicate" Millstone Edge in the Peak District as Access Land.
