BMC Student Safety Webinar Workshops

The BMC is offering a series of free workshops for students involved in climbing, hill walking or mountaineering clubs. These will begin on 29th September and each one will start at 19.00 pm. The main BMC Student Safety Seminar normally held at Play Y Brenin in October will not be running until October 2021.

There are 9 workshops available. You can register for the workshops below and we will email you a link 1 week before the session starts.
 
 
Webinar Workshops and Dates:
 
Club Transport
29th September, 19.00pm. This wil cover everything you need to know about driving minibuses. Mike Jimenez will be leading the sessions. REGISTER HERE
 
Climbing for all:Disability awareness in climbing
30th September, 19.00pm. Looking at ways of making your club more inclusive. Jay Jackson who runs Climb Cornwall will be leading this session. REGISTER HERE
 
Incident Management
6th October, 19.00pm. This will look at what to do if a member of your party injures themselves. From when to call the rescue team, group shelters and other key equipment. Chris Wood will be leading this session. REGISTER HERE
 
Intro to teaching novices climbing
7th October, 19.00pm. This workshop will look at how to safely structure the teaching of climbing skills to newbies and hazards to watch out for. Esther Foster will be leading this session. REGISTER HERE
 
Intro to teaching novices hill walking skills
8th October, 19.00pm. This will cover equipment to take and offer ideas about teaching navigation, focusing on OS maps and compasses. Anthony Eccles will be leading this session.
 
Expedition & overseas trip planning
12th October, 19.00pm. This workshop will offer guidance, checklists and examples for those planning expeditions. Planning and preparation for trips is always important to prevent epics from occurring, from checking forecasts, taking key equipment, insurance and risk assessing. Esther Foster will deliver this workshop. REGISTER HERE
 
SU Policy and Insurance
14th October, 19.00pm. This session will offer advice about working with Student Unions and what insurance can and cannot offer. Elizabeth Porter and Jane Thompson, BMC Clubs Officer will delvier this session. REGISTER HERE
 
How to teach belaying
15th October, 19.00pm. This session will look at key insights from the BMCs Belaying Working Group which was set up as a result from a belaying accident in a student club. Jon Garside, BMC Mountain Training Officer will deliver this session. REGISTER HERE
 
Care and maintenence of equipment
20th October, 19.00pm. This will familiarise student with logging methods, look at equipment inspections and discuss choice of suitable pooled equipment. Dan Middleton, BMC Technical Officer will be leading this workshop. REGISTER HERE
