The UK distributor for Petzl, Lyon Equipment, have announced a recall for replacement of some GriGri 2 belay devices. A specific range of batch numbers are affected; users are requested to check their devices and to follow the return procedure where necessary.
Petzl has discovered that exerting excessive force on the fully extended handle of the GRIGRI 2 can cause internal damage, such that the handle may become stuck in the open position.
Petzl is not aware of any accidents resulting from this.
Petzl has increased the mechanical strength of the handle on all GRIGRI 2’s since serial number 11137.
Owners/users of affected GriGri 2 devices in the UK should read and follow the instructions announced by Lyon Equipment to exchange their devices for replacements.
