Warning over fake Petzl equipment

Posted by Dan Middleton on 17/02/2011
Fake equipment that can kill!

The equipment manufacturer Petzl has discovered that criminals are making counterfeit copies of some of its equipment.

Fake copies of Petzl equipment are nothing new, but this new sinister turn of events is notable because not only are the fakes almost impossible to detect by the user, but they involve items of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).

Four items of PPE have been found to have been copied, two ascenders, one pulley and a locking karabiner. The user will not be able to differentiate between these fakes and the real thing, but the fakes are dangerously weak and could fail in use with catastrophic consequences.

Our advice is to only purchase your Petzl equipment through a recognised retailer. If you have equipment which you doubt the authenticity of, contact Petzl through their UK & Ireland distributor Lyon Equipment.
