The owners of Taffs Wells West, near Cardiff have indicated that they have concerns regarding climbing at this limestone quarry.
Taffs Wells West is a small limestone quarry just north of Cardiff and the owners (Cemex Ltd) have informed the BMC that the crag is within the boundaries of a larger and active working quarry. Due to concerns regarding liability under the Quarries Regulations 1999, the owners have asked the BMC to inform climbers that Cemex Ltd do not allow climbing at this site. Discussions are ongoing with Cemex, who are sympathetic to climbers requirements but are constrained by their legal duties under the Quarries Act.
Climbers are asked to keep a low profile and to follow any requests made by quarry staff until the situation can be resolved. The matter will also be discussed at the forthcoming BMC South Wales meeting on 25 November at Dynamic Rock, Swansea.
