The Alpine Ski Club is offering a number of grants to those who want to engage in ski mountaineering. There are grants for training and also grants for ski mountaineering expeditions.
In recent years the Alpine Ski Club have aided several young people starting out on ski mountaineering by taking an introductory course with a guide in the Alps. They have also grant aided a number of expeditions particularly to the Himalayas and Greenland.
Training grants
The Alpine Ski Club is offering training grants of around £250 to young or inexperienced ski-mountaineers, to assist with attending professionally instructed courses.
Expedition grants
They are also offering grants of around £500 towards taking part in serious ski mountaineering expeditions which include an element of exploration. Recently they have supported expeditions to Greenland and the Himalaya.
Applications for winter and spring activities should be made before 4 December. Applications for expeditions later in the year will be considered at the discretion of the Alpine Ski Club.
The Alpine Ski Club offer grants towards:
(a) Taking part in a serious ski mountaineering expedition which includes an element of exploration
(b) Attending an approved training course in the full range of ski mountaineering skills
(c) Carrying out a research project on an aspect of ski mountaineering
(d) Other activities, which further the knowledge and practice of safe movement in the mountains on ski
Grants are not automatically awarded. The decision of the Alpine Ski Club on whether or not to give grants is final and no reason is necessarily given if an award cannot be given.
