The Jeremy Willson Mountain Exploration Grant is available on an annual basis to those applying for expedition grants from the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) and Mount Everest Foundation (MEF). The grant is provided by the Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust.

The Jeremy Willson Charitable Trust is a charity set up by the Willson family in tribute to and memory of their son and brother, Jeremy. Jeremy sadly died in March 2006, aged 30, of new variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD). He was extremely unlucky – less than 200 people are known to have contracted vCJD worldwide. He was reduced from the active, outgoing and successful person he was, to a state in which he lost his ability to walk, remember, eat, co-ordinate, speak and do those things that we all take for granted.

The charity helps people and projects that reflect his passions in life. Jeremy was a keen mountaineer, adventurer and field geologist - he felt at home in the mountains and travelled extensively around the world, exploring remote regions for both work and recreation.

Jeremy grabbed life in both hands and achieved more in his short 30 years than most would expect to do in a whole lifetime. He inspired and encouraged others to achieve things they did not think they were able to do. It is in this spirit that the grant is provided.
