Once again the BMC is inviting bolt fund activists to place their bids for bolt donations. The aim of the campaign, now in its 4th year, is to encourage and foster high standard bolting of sport climbs, by supplying state of the art bolts which can be used for re-equipping existing routes.

What is on offer?

The BMC has allocated £10,000 from the 2010 budget, to be spent on bolts and lower off's. These will be given away to local groups for re-equipment projects. Projects which have benefited from BMC help in previous years include Lower Pen Trwyn, Portland, N. Wales Slate, St. Bees and Frogsmouth Quarry.

Applications should be made by completing the downloadable application form.

Procedure for making allocations

All applications will be sent to the Area Chair, to be voted on as acceptable or not by members at the next round of Area meetings. Those bids which meet area approval will then be forwarded to the Better Bolts Campaign panel. The panel consists of Rab Carrington, Pat Littlejohn, Steve McClure, Dave Turnbull & Dan Middleton. The panel will make the final decision on any bolt allocations.

Additional support

For those groups which request it, bolt workshops will be run. These are an ideal way for sharing expertise on bolting, and to bring activists together to network and plan future projects.

Donate to your local fund

The support which the BMC can offer has been greatly appreciated by climbers and bolt funds. You can make even more of a difference by donating directly to a bolt fund. Regardless of whether you sport climb regularly or only rarely, if you prefer clipping good stainless steel bolts over rusting museum pieces then you really should consider making a donation.
