The Mountaineering Instructor Certificate, known as the MIC, is for instructors working in winter conditions.

It covers multi-pitch winter climbing and other winter mountaineering skills.

Mountain Leader Training England has produced a DVD showcasing the eight leadership and instructional awards available in the UK.The film provides an overview of the experience required to train for the MIC, how it is assessed, and the work that MIC holders do.

Watch the Mountaineering Instructor Certificate film.

Those looking to gain the MIC must first complete both the Mountaineering Instructor Award and Winter Mountain Leader schemes. Once further experience has been gained, it is possible to register for the MIC with Mountain Leader Training UK. For more information, read the MIC syllabus and prospectus.

The films of all the awards available in the UK can be viewed on the BMC website. Alternatively, contact Mountain Leader Training England for a copy of the comprehensive DVD.
